Construction work on the Gotthardt road tunnel has been underway since 2020. In total, the tunnel boring machine is drilling 16.9 kilometres through the Gotthardt massif and removing around 17.4 million tonnes of rock from the mountain.
A large proportion of the material is reprocessed and reused for the construction work on the tunnel. With a total of eight bucket elevators, we are able to participate in this exciting project. In some cases, crushed gneiss and granite are conveyed through the bucket elevators at a rate of up to 350 tonnes per hour. The ELXG10 used there not only sets new standards in terms of heavy-duty design, but is also very impressive with its shaft cross-section of 1000x17000mm. The project is currently still under construction, so the second tube is expected to go into operation in 2030.
